Credit Card Companies
Jan. 1st, 2004 08:23 pmI went online in the middle of November to try and get a credit line increase on one of my credit cards. I wanted to have alittle bit of spending money on the cards for the holidays. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. I got declined. I figured that.
Fast forward to today....
I went online to check the balance on my credit card so we could go out to dinner. I figured I had about $100 since I just made a payment. I was flabbergasted to see that I had about $1600 available. I blinked and looked again to see the same amount. I called the 1-800 # to check, and the automated system said the same thing. I pressed 0 and spoke to a young man who informed me that on Dec 18th my credit line was increased. I puzzledly mentioned that I thought I was declined a credit line increase. He checked and informed me that yes in November I was declined, but then Dec 18th they did up my credit.
OK... I wonder what changed in 1 month. Caritas proposed a theory that I think is probably right. It takes about 90 days for information to be updated on credit reports. In Nov it was probably still showing I was unemployed, in Dec when they review accounts my credit report probably showed I am employed again. Ok.
What a difference a job makes. :)
