Medical Stuff
Sep. 2nd, 2022 02:13 pm I had my 4 month follow up with my endocrinologist today. I have been worried since my morning blood sugar has been running 140-160 so I was figuring my A1c would be up from the 5.9 it was last visit. The reason my morning numbers are higher is cause I can't afford the medication I was on. I was using Trulicity and getting it at $25/month with a lilly savings card. That stopped and then it was going to be over $300 per month. Sorry can't do that. I then had to go thru my insurance to determine which medications are acceptable, and then check with the pharmacy and even good rx to find out what the pricing would be. I went thru about 4 calls and such trying to find something my wallet could handle that would help. I ended up with Janumet once a day which I take with dinner. I also take glipizide.
Now to today's visit. My A1c registered at 5.7. I was in shock and told my doctor I did not feel that could be accurate. The girl who pricked my finger and ran the test might have done something wrong. She did not have all the items out and ready so not sure if the blood was placed in the machine quick enough or something. My doctor listened to me and we went over the options.
1) the A1c was wrong or having issues which can happen if I am anemic.
2) my meter is out of calibration. I have ordered a control solution to test it.
3) I am running higher in the morning but my body on average during the day is keeping the A1c low.
We decided to put a continuous monitor on for about 10 days and then see what it is reading. It is not one for personal use that I can find out the readings. They will only get the readings when they take it off and download it to the program. That is fine with me. I really like that we can do this because it will give me good data for diagnostic purposes. I also need to keep a food/exercise diary so when they see spikes or lows they can see if it is because of eating or exercise.
My doctor was very happy to see that I have lost weight. Since December of 2019 and today I have lost about 50lbs. This was one of 2 good things about Covid. Since I am working from home I am eating better. Not getting fast food almost every morning, or raiding the snack machine on break. Ok there was actually 3 good things about Covid. I am also saving money since not eating fast food/snacking etc. Also not needing to get gas as often. The other good thing was that I was finally able to grow my bangs out!!
