I have 4 cats as most readers know. There is Mr Melodie Man, Dustbunnie, Serendipity and Strife. They are all cool kitties. Today one got to get a visit from the vet. Of course it had to be the one cat that I least wanted this to happen to, Serendipity. She is a very skittish cat. When someone comes to the door her and her brother Strife head upstairs. Strife comes out in an hour or 2, but it is like a 1/2 a day before we will see Sere. I think some of it has to do with living on the streets for the first 4-5 weeks of their life. It also does not help that she does not like to be held, and we did have someone try to force the issue with her. She likes affection, but on her terms which is fine.

Today at about 12:30 I got her into the carrier to await the vet. He showed up about 12:50. We took the carrier into the bathroom and he had me try to get her out and try and get her into the small sink. Lets just say she won that battle and took off to the closed door using my arm as a launching pad. I think I did pretty good since I did not scream and I just grabbed some toilet paper to stop the blood and went back to try and help. Dr MacDonald was able to catch her and get her up into the sink which calmed her alittle bit. He said that he has found that being in the sink does calm animals, because they are surrounded. He had a nice good hold on the scruff of her neck since he had to see about looking under her chin to her neck.

The diagnosis is an allergic reaction. He did a check for fleas w/ a comb and came up negative. I think it might be a new treat I have been giving them for the past week. She had this once before only in a smaller area and I do think it coincided with the last time we had these treats. It is the only thing I can think of that is different. She got a shot and I was advised to call back in 2 weeks if it does not clear up. If that is the case next time I really want Phaeton home for this.

Now I am off licking my wounds as she is off someplace hiding. When we opened the bathroom door she took off upstairs and if I went looking I might find her. I would only give myself a 5% chance though. I have gotten some ice to minimize the bruising around the puncture wounds, and soon will be using some more Hydrogen Peroxide to clean the area on my right inner forearm. I love my kitties and know she did not mean to hurt me. It just HURTS! I wish I had an icon of her. My black ninja kitty- Serendipity.
