Ugh

Just got off the phone with the ask a nurse attached to my insurance card. I got a guy nurse. I am so glad I was not asking about womanly things. *grins* I woke up about 20 minutes ago with a 'nice' burning pain up and down my throat. Acid Reflux again. 2nd or 3rd time this has happened where it woke me up and kept me up. I went to the doctor about it last time, and he treated the symptoms, but did not decide on a long range plan since this was the 1st time and we hoped it would be the last. Now it is becoming a chronic problem instead of a 1 shot deal. This bites. I called the nurse helpline when the baking soda and water was not helping fast enough. I wanted to know if I could mix that remedy with the generic Maalox/Mylanta stuff I have. I also wanted to know where the pain/problem cut off would be to go into the hospital tonight. He states that if my throat/larynx starts to close because of the acid that may have gone down there, or if I start to feel like I just want to spit out instead of swallowing my saliva, I should go in. I did feel just like that before I called, but it has gotten so much better. I am afraid to lay down. I need to find the wedge pillow. At least the pain is mostly gone now.

I really really like having an ask a nurse line. I will use them whenever I just am unsure. I called once and that is when the nurse told me to go to the hospital. I thought I was maybe having a drug reaction, and the nurse thought it was gall bladder. She was right, and I got lucky because I only had 1 attack and by going to the hospital the ultrasound found the stones, and I had my gall bladder removed about 2 weeks later. I have had 2 friends who have gone years before being diagnosed with gall bladder problems. They each had multiple attacks. I think the reason it was caught so early with me is partly because of the nurse help line. She told me to mention that to them when I went into the hospital. The other reason I like the nurse helpline is because if I call and get his/her recommendation for when to go into the hospital, I have that record to support when/if I do go into the emergency room. I can say, I called the helpline, and this is what the nurse told me.

Ok. I think the pain has subsided enough so I can try and go to sleep again. Must remember the right side, sleep on the right.
