On January 3rd I started a food diary. It is the one thing that has worked when I have lost weight before. Last year I would start one and then after about 1 week I would get fed up seeing the crap that I was eating and stop writing it down. It was depressing me. I think that on top of the depression I was still getting over from a break up made it really hard to do anything to help my health. My doctor's visit in Sept put my weight at the highest I have seen.... 339. I also got prescribed my highest amount of meds: 4. I have high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. I am on 2 meds for each condition. I knew that if I kept doing what I was it will kill me. My work did a maintain don't gain challenge for Nov and Dec. I participated. I did not weigh myself much, if at all. One reason is that my scale only goes up to 330. The other was that I really did not want to know. I did some exercise, I cut down on the fast food. I did not stress about it, but just went slow and decided that if at my January doctor appt I was still the same it would be good because I did not go up.
Then January 3rd came and I decided to really give it a shot. I found this great notebook at Staples that would be my food and/or exercise diary. Since January 3rd I have barely had fast food. I think it has been 4-5 days. Out of the past 26 days there are 6 days that I do not know my calorie count because of eating out. Those 6 days are probably over 2000 calories, but probably not over 4000. I wrote it all down. I am not stressing over it. The other 20 days I have been under 2000.
I went to my doctor on January 12th. I weighed in at 326. My doctor was so pleased. My blood sugar A1c was still high so we had to modify my meds, but that will get better.
At home I have been doing weigh ins on Friday. I know on the weekends I splurge a little. I like having the work week to make sure I even it out. By not eating fast food I am able to go out with Phaeton one night and have a nice dinner. It makes eating out more special. We can have a more expensive dinner since it has not been $5 here and $5 there at McDonald's and other places.
On Friday 1/28 my weight was 320.
The next health challenge at work is a physical activity one. It is over 2 months and you have to earn 80 points. You get a point for each 10 minutes of continuous exercise done. So I need to have 10 points in a week or 100 minutes. To help this I have rejoined the Y. Today I went and paid for 3 months. I even wore my workout clothing and went and did 25 minutes on the machines. Month 2 here I come!
